This summer Real Madrid have completed the signings of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, two of the stars from this summers World Cup, for for a combined fee of over £90 million pounds. This the sort of transfer policy of the old Real Galacticos - buy whoever is playing well whatever the cost. These two add onto the already undeniable talent already playing for Los Blancos to create one of the most expensive and brilliant sides ever.
Real will be looking to dominate every competition this campaign in all six competitions in which they will partake. The side on paper looks easily capable of doing this, having players on the bench that would get into almost any team. The strength in depth of Los Blancos is unbelievable which makes it all the more possible they can claim victory in all six competitions.
The squad:
Goalkeepers - Last season there was unrest in between the sticks as Diego Lopez played in most of the league fixtures and Iker Casillas played in the cups and Champions League. Now they have secured the services of Keylor Navas , the Costa Rican goalkeeper from the World Cup who was very impressive both in the La Liga and at the World Cup. This should add some consistency in goal as Casillas looks to be in decline and his judgement is going and Lopez is also in the latter stages of his career and so the Costa Rican should stake his claim for the number 1.
Defenders - In centre back it could be a rotation with Sergio Ramos and Pepe well experienced and the highly rated young French defender Raphael Varane. These three are all very capable players. At full back the disgraced Marcelo still looks a first choice and Fabio Coentrao and Carvajal will be fighting it out for the other flank. This is the one position in the squad that you could call weak but Marcelo is still quite highly regarded for his attacking abilities, which is the way with modern full backs.
Midfield - The possible options in midfield seem endless and every one of the players is exceptionally talented. In central midfield they have the old guard in Xabi Alonso, who as he has got older seems to be getting better and better and is still probably their best defensive midfielder. Also defensively you could have the younger Illarramendi and Casemiro who are inexperianced but are still good enough to fill the gap if Alonso is suspended. Still they have Sami Khedira who is also a very good defensive midfielder. More offensive midfielders is where the squad looks brilliant. New signings James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos have both proved themselves to be World class players in Rio and Luka Modric played one of his best seasons last time out. Also they have the highly rated Spanish U21 Isco who is already very promising and could get into most teams outside of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Attackers - These players are also some of the best in the game and make me drool at the prospect of them playing together. Cristiano Ronaldo is the current best player in the world can destroy any defence with his trickery and explosive pace. Gareth Bale, the young Welshman is the best current British player and can also destroy any defence with his sharpness of mind and dribbling ability. The young Spaniard Jese Rodriguez is a very exciting prospect but also can do a job in most Spanish clubs already. The French forward Karim Benzema had a great World Cup scoring a lot of goals in the French charge to the quarter-finals and is a target up-front who can score goals.
I believe that this side has what it takes for total world domination this season and could make history with the six trophies sitting in their cabinet at the end of the season.
